Entries in this section are to be shown, where appropriate, on firm plates (e.g. china or plastic) not exceeding 10” (25 cm) diameter.
All entries in classes 500 - 516 must be put in clear plastic bags by the exhibitor. Make sure the plastic bags are large enough for both the plate and the cake. Classes 517-520 may be in plastic bags. Class 507 must be made according to WI standard guidelines.
Please do NOT use Clingfilm. All jams, jellies, marmalades, curds and chutneys are to have cellophane covers. Please do NOT use metal lids.
Class 533 may be made from any ingredients including shop-bought but please give name of cocktail.

Class 506 - Wholemeal Chocolate Hazelnut Cake (the winner of this class from last year cannot enter this class)
Ingredients:
- 6oz (175g) butter or margarine
- 6oz (175g) golden granulated sugar
- 3 eggs beaten
- 2 tablespoons water
- 5.5oz (160g) Wholemeal flour
- 1 heaped tablespoon (15g) cocoa powder
- 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
- 7oz (200g) plain chocolate, chopped quite small
- 4oz (110g) ground hazelnuts (if you can't get hold of them, use whole ones, roast in oven until browned then rub with kitchen towel to remove skins and blitz in blender until ground)
- 1 jar chocolate hazelnut spread (eg. Nutella)
Method:
- Preheat oven to fan 170C / Gas 5
- Grease and line 2 x 8 inch (20cm) deep round cake tins
- Cream butter and sugar together, until light and fluffy
- Beat in eggs a little at a time
- Add the water
- Gradually fold in the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder
- Fold in the chopped chocolate pieces and ground hazelnuts
- Split mixture equally between cake tins and level
- Bake for 25 mins until skewer comes out clean or centre is springy when lightly touched
- Leave cake to cool in tin for 5 - 10 minutes before turning out
- When cool, spread chocolate hazelnut spread on both cakes before placing one on top of the other
